Hermit Crab Care

Requirements

The following at a MUST have for hermitcare

  • 10 Gallon glass tank or larger ( Not Acrylic) *
  • Heat lamp or heat pad ( Heat pad must go on OUTSIDE of tank.)
  • Fish tank lid or Glass lid
  • Sand or Eco Earth  (not colored sand)** see Sizing chart page for how much youll need.
  • Fake plastic or silk plants( Note:  all metal  parts must be covered to prevent rust from forming.)
  • 2  Water dishes ( Deep enough for largest cab to sumurge)
  • Climbing logs ( See safe woods list)
  • Sea salt - either Red Sea or Oceanic brand ( DO NOT ues table salt)
  • Hydrometer and thermometer

 

                     * Acrylic may melt under heat lamp or pad

                    ** colored sand  contains poision dye. if eaten  the crab could die.Crabs eat sand to help digest food.

Other items you can use.

 

  •  1 inch hole Fish net ( Can be found in local craft stores)
  • Large  jars ( Colored is ok, can be use as a See-though hidie)
  • Tarra-cotta pots
  • Hemp rope( Canbe found in craft store and can be knitted in to nets)

Stuff you can use from around the house

 

  • Terra-cotta pots
  • Glass jars
  • Old soda bottles cut in half (Not cans)
  • Straws ( Can silicon them together to make things)
  • Tubaware ( Make great water dishes)
  • Sea shells
  • Rocks
  • Back (white) side of wraping paper( Let the kid draw on it and make a background for your tank.)
